The check includes evaluating the type of product, a discriminating factor as some devices cannot be dismantled/separated, and it is necessary to identify whether the damaged part is a replaceable component. Finally, a cost-benefit analysis is performed: the economic viability of the repair is evaluated compared to a full replacement.

The main difference between Category II and Category III PPE (Personal Protective Equipment) relates primarily to the danger they protect against and the required certification process. For Category II PPE: they protect against risks of intermediate magnitude, such as helmets, and must undergo an EU-type examination by a notified body (Module B). Category III PPE: they protect against serious or mortal dangers or those that can cause irreversible damage to health, such as fall arrest devices (harnesses), respirators against toxic gases, protection against aggressive chemical agents, PPE for environments with extreme temperatures. Certification: mandatory EU-type examination by a notified body, continuous production control or annual surveillance by a notified body (Module C2 or D), and they require specific training for use.

The NFC chip is already integrated into several of our products, including carabiners, stretchers, descenders, harnesses, and helmets. For products without an integrated chip, various types of standalone chips are available for user installation. By holding a smartphone (or an NFC reader connected to a PC) close to the chip, the data is scanned in a simple and intuitive way through the most common inspection software, such as Scannable, Exteryo, or Papertrail, enabling continuous updates and data sharing.

A winch is a mechanical device used for lifting heavy loads, consisting of a rotating drum around which a cable or rope is wound. It is mounted on helicopters and is mainly used for rescue operations. A product that can be connected to the winch is called winchable (external cargo). EASA is leading a working group that has drawn up a list of products that can be connected to the winch for human suspension in rescue operations (Human External Cargo - HEC). Recently, the technical requirements for external cargo products (human and non-human) have been included in the technical standards for helicopter certification.
