Intended audience

Operators, technicians of organisations or companies working in areas with potential avalanche danger.

Prerequisites

Participants must be in good, self-certified psychophysical condition.
Good progression skills in snowy terrain with skis or snowshoes.
Personal equipment for progression and self-rescue in snowy terrain

Objectives

The ‘avalanche self-rescue’ training course focuses on the acquisition of avalanche self-rescue techniques implemented on an individual or team level, as well as an awareness of the non-technical skills (NTS) required to move in avalanche hazard scenarios, which are often difficult to identify.

At the end of the course, the student knows how to make a dynamic risk assessment, knows how to make choices in an environment of uncertainty, knows how to practise avalanche self-rescue techniques to search for one or more persons, and also knows how to activate public rescue.

Entry fee

270,00 € per participant (VAT exempt).

It is possible to organize courses on Saturdays and Sundays as well, by scheduling the dates in advance. Customized quotes will be provided with the appropriate fee adjustments.

Confirmation of the course will be sent by e-mail at least 10 working days before the fixed date.

The course will be run with a minimum of 3 participants and a maximum of 5. 

Contents

Theory (2 hours)

  • Danger and risk
  • Approach to risk in work, leisure and during avalanche rescue
  • Scenario analysis, hazard identification, risk assessment and decision making
  • Active and passive self-protection
  • Basic knowledge of self-protection and self-rescue devices
  • Rescue activation and interaction 

Training (6 hours)

  • Field observations with an empirical approach to snow scenarios in order to choose the route with the least exposure to danger
  • Measures to minimise exposure to avalanche danger
  • Training in the techniques of searching for, locating and exhuming an avalanche victim

PPE and Log Book

The PPE required for the course (with the exception of clothing, footwear, and gloves) will be provided by Kong S.p.A.
Logbook holders (Kong, Irata, GWO) are required to bring it with them for recording updates.

Certification

A certificate of attendance is issued after a positive learning assessment and 100% attendance of the total course hours.

Refresher course

A three-yearly update with verification is foreseen.

Payment procedure

Bank transfer within two days of receipt of the course confirmation. Registration will only be officially confirmed upon receipt of the fee.

Cancellation

In case of cancellation Kong S.p.A. will retain:

  • 50% if the cancellation is made within 5 working days before the beginning of the course
  • the entire fee if the cancellation is made from the fourth working day before the beginning of the course, at the beginning of the course or after the course has started

Any absences for health reasons only entitle the fee to be suspended.
