BAOBAB is used to let down branches, and segments of trunk, in reliable conditions.

It also can be used to lift something upon a tree.
 

BAOBAB viene utilizzato per calare a terra rami e
porzioni di tronco, in condizioni controllate. Può inoltre essere utilizzato per operazioni di sollevamento.
 

Warning:

This tool must be operated by those who are really
skilled in this kind of job.

A special care must be spent choosing suitable ropes.

For a proper self-tailing are recommended diameters varying within 12 and 16 mm.

In any case the tool cannot work with metallic cables,
not even with ropes having a metal core.

The stresses must be adjust following the working conditions and the rope quality.

Questo attrezzo deve essere usato solo da persone che abbiano esperienza e formazione specifica.

L'uso dell'attrezzo richiede corde adatte allo scopo.

Per un corretto self-tailing sono consigliate corde con diametro 12-16 mm.

In ogni caso l'attrezzo non deve essere usato con cavi di metallo o corde che abbiano anima metallica.

Le sollecitazioni a cui è sottoposto devono essere commisurate alla tenuta della corda.

Setting up

First of all you have to locate the side of the trunk where
is better to install the pulley appointed to hang the segments to be cut down.

Afterwards you must install BAOBAB, not at all under
the pulley, but preferring a location which will be roughly 45° shifted apart.

The operator which acts BAOBAB, has to be in condition to easily follow what is doing the man working
on the tree, taking into account any foliage obstruction, the sun shining and everything may shorten the safety of involved people and things.

Moreover, it is imperative that the operator always wears gloves and glasses, in order to be protected against dazzling and sawdust.

After that you can continue following these steps:
 

Installazione

Prima di tutto occorre individuare il lato del tronco dove è posizionata la carrucola predisposta per calare le porzioni mozzate dell'albero.

Si deve evitare di mettere il BAOBAB proprio sotto la verticale della calata, preferendo una posizione
scostata di circa 45°.

L’operatore che utilizza il BAOBAB deve sempre mettersi in condizione di poter seguire tutte le manovre dell’uomo arrampicato sulla pianta, considerando la vegetazione presente, il bagliore del sole e tutto ciò che potrebbe costituire impedimento per la sicurezza.

E’ importante, inoltre, che l'operatore utilizzi sempre i guanti e gli occhiali protettivi sia per la luce che per la segatura. Individuata la porzione del tronco dove
piazzare il BAOBAB, si procede come segue:
 

Rest the gummed side of the plate against the trunk,
so as it holds on as much as possible. Keep away from knots or cracks.

Do not settle the plate lower than 50 centimetres from
the ground: this will help you through the subsequent operations.
 

Fix one end of the belt and pull it around the trunk until you reach the lock slot placed on the other side.

When connected, the belt must lie horizontally at the same height oh the two lock slots.

Agganciare la fettuccia di ancoraggio nell’apposito attacco, facendola girare attorno al tronco e inserendola nel cricchetto. Una volta fissata, la fettuccia deve stare stesa orizzontalmente all’altezza degli attacchi.
 

Insert the winch into the slide, turning the inscription TOP towards the upper side.

Inserire il winch nelle apposite slitte, lasciando la scritta TOP verso l’alto.
 

Insert the coupling rod and lock it
with its check pin.

Inserire il perno di fissaggio nell’apposita sede, bloccandolo con la spina laterale.

A questo punto il winch del BAOBAB è correttamente installato e pronto all’uso.
 

Using the winch to let down

The rope coming from the top - that is from the pulley placed on the tree - must be kept inside the two guides placed on the upper side of the plate.
 

Utilizzo del winch come frizione

La corda che arriva dall’alto - cioè dalla carrucola posta sull’albero - deve passare all'interno di entrambe le guide poste sopra la piastra.
 

At the same time, the rope coming out from the winch must pass inside the lower guide.

The better number of turns around the winch depends
from the weight of the segment the operators have in mind to move.
 

La corda in uscita dal winch deve invece passare nel guida-corda inferiore.
Il numero di spire di corda sul tamburo dipende dal peso dei segmenti di albero da calare, valutati dall’esperienza dell'operatore.
 

Warning:

It is recommended that the operator will stay along the direction of the rope coming out from the winch, keeping for himself place enough to escape in case of accident.
 

Attenzione:

E’ consigliabile che l'operatore si ponga lungo la direzione d'uscita della corda, badando ad avere condizioni di sicurezza e via di fuga in caso di pericolo.
 

Using the friction-drum

For lighter and trouble-free jobs it is more simple to use the friction-drum included in the BAOBAB set.
 

Utilizzo della frizione a tubo

Per le operazioni meno impegnative può essere usata la frizione a tubo che fa parte della dotazione di BAOBAB.
 

The friction-drum is installed at the same way
of the winch. But the rope is kept on the drum
by a cross-guide, so as the operator may stay either on the side or on the front of the plate.
 

La frizione a tubo si monta nello stesso modo del winch. La corda è mantenuta sul tamburo dalla guida a croce. L’operatore può quindi disporsi sia nella direzione
di uscita della corda, sia frontalmente.
 

Using the winch to lift up

In order to lift up a load, or accurately control a descent, it is better to act the winch through the handle and inserting the rope in the self-tailer.
 

Utilizzo del winch con la manovella

Per sollevare un carico, o controllare con precisione la calata, è bene agire sul winch mediante la manovella, inserendo la corda nel sistema di ritenuta (self-tailing).
 

The clockwise rotation gives a 1:6 ratio (one drum turn
per six hand lever turns); the power is 1:39
(1kg force applied to the hand lever allows to lift 39 kg). Normally used when the weight to be lifted
is considerable.
The anticlockwise rotation has a 1:2 ratio and the power
is 1:13. This must be used when the weight is lighter: higher speed for a lower weight.
A drum turn (360°) corresponds to 260mm
recovered rope.
 

La rotazione in senso orario ha un rapporto 1:6 (un giro
di tamburo per sei giri di manovella); la potenza è di 1:39 (1kg di forza applicato alla manovella permette di
sollevare 39 kg). Si usa quando il peso da sollevare è elevato.
In senso antiorario il rapporto è 1:2 e la potenza è di 1:13. Si usa quando il peso da sollevare è minore: maggiore velocità per un peso minore
Un giro di tamburo (360°) corrisponde a 260mm di corda recuperata.
